Hospitality jobs in Illinois have declined nearly 52% since the pandemic began, according to new data, as lawsuits continue against the governor’s orders to close non-essential businesses.
While leisure and hospitality jobs were hit the hardest, the number of small businesses open in Illinois overall has fallen by about 36.5% as of March 20, compared to January 2020, based on data compiled by Opportunity Insights, a nonprofit group at Harvard University. ....

CHICAGO (WLS) Officials are working on a new phased reopening plan as the state of Illinois set another vaccination record Monday, with the 7-day average now above 100,000 doses a day.
Illinois Department of Public Health officials reported 1,997 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 19 deaths on Tuesday.
It comes as Chicago is set to announce a March 29 start date for the next vaccination phase. In 1C, more essential workers are eligible - including those in hospitality, construction, law, banking and media - as are Chicagoans ages 16 to 64 with serious health conditions.
Broadly speaking, if you have an underlying condition, you re going to be able to get a vaccine in April or May, said Dr. Allison Arwady, director, Chicago Dept. of Public Health. ....

JERSEYVILLE A $450,000 grant from the state will bring a major renovation of the Susnig Center in Jerseyville closer to reality.
Organizers have been working for more than a year to raise the money needed to update the complex at 401 Mound St. The center’s existing gym floor will be replaced, and bleachers and restrooms will be brought into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. ....

New Delhi: French architects Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal have won the 2021 Pritzker Prize for architecture, considered to be the profession’s highest honour.
The two are known to create sustainable buildings by using pre-existing structures in their work. Their motto is to “never demolish”, and so ” Lacaton and Vassal undertake restrained interventions to upgrade dated infrastructure while allowing enduring properties of a building to remain”, the Pritzker Prize website says. The two also use open spaces in a way that integrates them into the buildings. ....

WOOD RIVER Three COVID-19 related deaths were reported late Monday by the Madison County Health Department.
The deceased included a man in his 40s, a woman in her 60s and a woman in her 90s. To date, 469 people have died from COVID-19 in Madison County. They were the first COVID-19 related deaths reported in the county since Thursday.
The Illinois Department of Public Health on Tuesday was reporting two Madison County deaths a woman in her 60s and a woman in her 90s among 19 additional COVID-19 related deaths in the state. ....
