The pen is mightier than the sword. That phrase, coined by the author Edward Bulwer-Lytton in the 1830s and a powerful advocacy of the written language over direct violence, was once a source of comfort. Yet in the past 18 months, I have begun to feel that the strength of this statement brings with it a certain queasiness.
Words have always been weapons of course, yet while in the past they were used sparingly, they have now either become tools for a social media riot or in the case of much writing, undetonated hand grenades waiting to cause offence or anger.

Warner Bros Denies ‘Harry Potter’ TV Spinoff in the Works at HBO Max

Despite reports on Monday that HBO Max was in early development on a “Harry Potter” TV spinoff, the studio denies that’s the case.
Early Monday, multiple media reports stated that WarnerMedia executives were looking for writers for a potential series set inside the world of the hit box office franchise (The Hollywood Reporter was first to report). When contacted by TheWrap to confirm the news, we got this statement from HBO Max and Warner Bros.: “There are no ‘Harry Potter’ series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.”
