Editorial: Texas storm's aftermath a lesson in the need for government


The image of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz pulling his carry-on suitcase through an airport, en route home from an escape to Cancun, Mexico, in the aftermath of one of the most devastating storms to hit his state, has become an icon of extreme indifference on the part of an elected leader.
Cruz claimed he was just trying to be a good dad by responding to his daughters request for a resort vacation, while millions of Texans were suffering without power and clean running water. The storm resulted in the deaths of dozens in the state, including an 11-year-old boy who died in his freezing home. ....

On Thursday morning, Bob Fleming put out a call to his network of faith-based organizations, asking how people in the Houston area were coping with the record-breaking winter storm that has gripped much of Texas this week.
For those asking, it s four days later and I still don t have power. I ve been looking for a hotel since day two. We got power for maybe 20 minutes yesterday and then it went back out. It s devastating for me and my two children, said one woman. ....

The Vatican has issued new guidelines for Ash Wednesday. Ashes will be sprinkled onto the head instead of the forehead.

DALLAS Ash Wednesday, an important day for Catholics, is going to look different this year.
Instead of the priest or deacon using ashes to make the sign of the cross on people s foreheads, ashes will be sprinkled on top of people s heads.
Also, the priest will bless the ashes all at once instead of individually speaking to and blessing everyone.
The Vatican recently sent down the new rules to churches worldwide because of COVID-19. ....
