So said Jesus to the Apostles after His Resurrection (John 20:21).
Indeed, the word “apostle” derives from the Greek word “απόστολος,” which means “one who is sent.” We know from Scripture that the Apostles left their homes not only to follow Jesus but also eventually to evangelize the nations far and wide.
Tradition with a “small t” tells us that they visited nearby lands along the Mediterranean Sea and frontiers as far away as Armenia, Britain, Ethiopia, Persia and India. They may have arrived in these lands alone or as part of a small group of fellow disciples. The Apostles were likely unaware or unfamiliar with the people, language, culture and customs of these distant lands.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — Second doses are available for the nearly 1,500 people who received a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at three minority churches from March 16-19.
People who received their first does at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and St. Louis Baptist Church in Tyler, and New Zion Baptist Church in Winona are asked to return to the same location on the same day of the week at around the same time as their first vaccine.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - The nearly 1,500 people who received their first COVID-19 vaccines at three churches March 16-19, are asked to come back next week to the same place for their second doses.
Organizers are asking only those who received their first shots at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and St. Louis Baptist Church in Tyler, and New Zion Baptist Church in Winona, to return to the same location on the same day of the week at around the same time as their first vaccine.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — Smith County officials have continued to receive and distribute water this week that was delivered to East Texas by military planes sent by the state of Texas.
Government agencies, including cities, counties and school districts, as well as nonprofits and other various organizations throughout the region, requested water from the state following last week’s winter storm.

Priest of Popular New Orleans Church Accused of Rape

WDSU in New Orleans has published a story claiming Rev. John Asare-Dankwah of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Treme has been accused of raping and beating a 10-year-old during a church retreat in Montgomery, Alabama in 2008.
The anonymous victim, now 22, filed the lawsuit in a New Orleans court Wednesday. The victim claims the assault occurred during the time Rev. Asare-Dankwah was pastor of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Broadmore. The victim and his family were members.
The lawsuit alleges that Rev. Asare-Dankwah asked the boy if he loved God, one day during confessional. During that same confessional, Rev. Asare-Dankwah also asked the child if he loved him. The assumption is that the child said yes. Because it was during that same confessional, the victim says Rev. Asare-Dankwah exposed himself.
