NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Community members concerned about a plan to move City Hall to the Municipal Auditorium site will gather this evening in Treme. They say the proposals, one of which would create a new high-rise building doesn’t fit in with the area’s cultural roots.
Before the New Orleans Arena, the Municipal Auditorium was one of the city’s premier gathering sites for concerts, Mardi Gras balls, and graduations. But since Katrina it has languished. ....

Once the coronavirus outbreak rocked Pittsburgh s historically Black neighborhoods, Father Paul Abernathy knew that when a COVID-19 vaccine arrived, it would be time to swap his pulpit for the streets in order to convince residents to take the vaccine.
Father Paul, as he s known to members of St. Moses the Black Orthodox church, donned a yellow neon vest over his Roman collar and began walking door-to-door, infusing faith into his plea for residents to take the vaccine.
This is very important, he said to one hesitant neighbor as he knocked on doors in Pittsburgh s predominantly African-American Hill District. Sometimes when we pray, he gives us blessing by way of medicine, by way of vaccines. ....

ArenaFan Originals - Beat the Guru: AFL 2011 Week 2

Adam Markowitz
Thursday March 17, 2011
It was definitely a trying week to be the Guru. Stupid Georgia gets beaten by a hook, Jacksonville can t figure out how to stop a two point conversion play to stick inside of the number, and god knows what the hell Coach Ho was doing at the end of that game against Pittsburgh. In total, it was a 2-5 ATS week for me in Week 1, but there will be bigger and better on the horizon.
On a more serious note, there s some health issues floating around in my family that might have me out of commission for some time this season. I ll be doing my best to keep up with the weekly columns, but let me send out the casting call for some help. I could really use a hand with the grading of these plays for Beat the Guru and the handling of the message boards. If you could lend me some help, please contact me at adam.markowitz@arenafan.com. Thanks in advance. ....

ArenaFan Originals - Bryan Robinson is the Heart of the Soul

Adam Markowitz
Friday August 10, 2012
NEW ORLEANS When you look into the eyes of Philadelphia Soul DL Bryan Robinson on the field, you have to see a man that is full of intensity. He s always out to work harder than you, and virtually 100% of the time, he does just that. When I had the chance to look into his eyes at Media Day on Wednesday, just 48 hours before ArenaBowl XXV, I saw a man that knows that he is on the verge of something special. And he s enjoying every single minute of it.
I ll have to admit that this is a man that I have a heck of a lot of respect for. A native of Delaware, Robinson always had a rough road to become a professional football player at any level. He stayed near his hometown for school, going to a very small school, Wesley College, a Division III college with a listed enrollment for last school year of 2,320. ....
