Washington [US], June 14 (ANI): Until now, systemic biomarkers to measure exercise effects on brain function and that link to relevant metabolic responses were lacking. A recent study shows a memory biomarker, myokine Cathepsin B (CTSB), increased in older adults following a 26-week structured aerobic exercise training.
The positive association between CTSB and cognition, and the substantial modulation of lipid metabolites implicated in dementia, support the beneficial effects of exercise training on brain function and brain health in asymptomatic individuals at risk for Alzheimer s.
Increasing evidence shows that physical activity and exercise training may delay or prevent the onset of Alzheimer s disease (AD). In ageing humans, aerobic exercise training increases grey and white matter volume enhances b ....

In old people aerobic exercise training increases gray and white matter volume, enhances blood flow and improves memory function so the ability of systemic biomarkers measuring exercise effects on brain function related to metabolomic alterations associated with risk for AD used for further prevention, monitoring, and treatment efforts.
To address this issue, Henriette van Praag, Ph.D., from Florida Atlantic University s Schmidt College of Medicine and Brain Institute and Ozioma Okonkwo, Ph.D., Wisconsin Alzheimer s Disease Research Centre and Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and their collaborators, tested the hypotheses that three specific biomarkers implicated in learning and memory will increase in older adults following exercise correlated with cognition and metabolomics markers of brain health. ....

Deaths from suicide are rising in the United States. These rising trends are especially alarming because global trends in suicide are on a downward trajectory. Moreover, in the U.S., the major mode of suicide among young Americans is by firearms.
Researchers from Florida Atlantic University s Schmidt College of Medicine and collaborators explored trends in suicide by firearms in young white and black Americans (ages 5 to 24 years) from 1999 to 2018. Results, published in the journal ....
