LONE PINE, Calif. (AP) A Texas man has died after falling to his death while hiking California’s Mount Whitney, authorities announced Wednesday.
Saulo Sifuentes Escalante, 36, of Conroe was reported missing on Sunday when he failed to return from a Thursday day hike to the peak in the Sierra Nevada, according to a statement from the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office.
Search and rescue teams aided by a helicopter unsuccessfully scoured the mountain on Monday but on Tuesday used cellphone data records to pinpoint a possible location. A helicopter found Escalante dead in a steep, snowy chute south of a main trail about 11,600 feet (3,536 meters) up the mountain, the Sheriff’s Office said. ....

As more people get vaccinated and spring weather and sunshine beckon us outdoors, one question may be nagging at you: Do we still need to wear masks outside?
More than a year into pandemic life, many people remain confused about the risk of spending time outdoors around other people. A growing body of research shows that transmission of Covid-19 is far less likely outdoors than inside, and the risk will get even lower as more people get vaccinated and cases continue to decline. But many states have yet to lift strict outdoor mask mandates. In Massachusetts, for instance, outdoor masking is required at all times, even when nobody else is around. ....

The city of St. Paul has announced the names of four the parks at Highland Bridge development, which is located at the former Ford Site along the Mississippi River.
Names were submitted by the public and selected with feedback from members of the Dakota community and the Saint Paul Youth Commission. The Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Commission was also part of the process.
“The chosen names for these public spaces reflect a myriad of our city’s histories honoring our Native community to whom this land belongs, our Union sisters and brothers who labored on the site for a century, our city’s interconnectivity with the rest of the region, and a very popular coyote in our neighborhood,” said Ward 3 Council Member Chris Tolbert in a statement. ....

A Republican-backed state bill, primarily led by Ohio state Representative Mike Loychik, was introduced on Monday and would rename Mosquito Creek Lake to Donald J. Trump State Park, which Loychik said in March was meant to honor Trump.
The name has withstood the test of time. Mosquito Creek Lake was formed by damming Mosquito Creek back in 1944, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources said in a statement in response to the bill, according to

(Reuters) - Hammerson said on Wednesday it sold seven retail parks to Canadian private-equity firm Brookfield Asset Management for 330 million pounds ($459.33 million), marking the mall operator’s exit from the UK retail parks sector.
British shopping centres are set to be fully operational by mid-May under phased exit plan from coronavirus restrictions, which have kept shoppers at home and led to widespread retail rent deferrals. ....
