Nike and PUMA Trademark Dispute Over "Footware"

PUMA is attempting to block the Oregon-based company from trademarking the term “footware.”
The Fashion Law reports that both brands have recently appeared in front of the High Court of Justice in London to appeal the hearing surrounding Nike’s trademark application. As per Nike, the brand plans to utilize “footware” in connection with tech-driven sneakers, defined as “computer hardware modules for receiving, processing, and transmitting data in the Internet of things electronic devices; electronic devices and computer software that allow users to remotely interact with other smart devices for monitoring and controlling automated systems.” Nike has also filed a similar trademark request for the same term under the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). ....

Puma vs. Nike 'Footware' Trademark Legal Case May 2021

Puma has taken legal action against Nike in an attempt to block its competitor from registering a term as a trademark.
According to the Fashion Law, representatives from the brands appeared before the High Court of Justice in London this week for an appeal hearing filed by Puma in March 2019 against Nike’s efforts in trademarking the term “footware.”
Puma’s argument is that the term is too generic and that its “obvious combination” of the words “footwear” and “hardware” (or “software”) merely describes any sneaker equipped with hardware or software and cannot be registered. ....

Haribo x PUMA Sneaker Collaboration Release Date

Candy purvor Haribo has teamed up with
PUMA for a sweet-styled two shoe collection. Consisting of new takes on the Street Rider and CA Pro, the Haribo x PUMA offerings pay homage to two of Haribo’s most popular candies Happy Cherries and signature Goldbears with one shoe representing each treat.
First up is the Street Rider, which commemorates Happy Cherries. It’s the more colorful pair of the duo, boasting a mesh and synthetic upper with a gradient fade graphic that shifts from bright red on the forefoot to lime green on the heel. White eyestays, laces and Formstrips provide extra detail, while “window” embellishments add sugary red and yellow tones into the mix. Co-branded tongues are done up in gold and stamped with a full-color Haribo bear, while insoles feature a repeating cherry print. PUMA have kept his legacy alive by releasing multiple collections often with charitable initiatives in September 2019, February 2020 and September 2020. Now, TMC and PUMA are back once again with a new capsule consisting of a crisp PUMA Suede and a special t-shirt.
Crafted to represent Hussle’s enduring spirit and legacy, the Suede is done up in gray with tonal Formstrip detailing. Forty-four camera traps have recorded various species in El Tuparro National Natural Park in Colombia’s Orinoco region, from jaguars and pumas, to deer, tapirs and peccaries, reflecting the park’s healthy ecosystems.
A separate survey also recorded a Guianan white-eared opossum (Didelphis imperfecta), a species never before recorded in Colombia.
The protected area has just turned 40 years old, and although it represents a rare conservation success story, rangers and researchers say it continues to face pressures from fires, sport and commercial fishing, and hunting.
Compounding the problem is the growing human presence in and around the park, as the economic and political crises in neighboring Venezuela drives an influx of people across the border in search of food. ....
