KENINGAU: Assistant Minister of Works Datuk Robert Tawik advised District Chiefs here who received their letter of appointment not to use the title OKK or “Orang Kaya Kaya”.

“Many do not understand the use of the title OKK, as if anyone appointed to the position of District Chief has the title of OKK.

THE State Local Government and Housing Ministry through the Sabah Natives Affairs Department (JHEAN) is discussing proposals to establish a Native Justice Department and the Appointment of Customary Heads Commission.
This was to ensure the relevance of Native Court proceedings and propose the appointment of Customary Heads are made through the establishment of the Commission to select qualified persons.
He also said that the appointment of Customary Heads for all districts would be completed by end of 2020.

“To ensure the newly appointed Customary Heads can administer and implement customary law and know the jurisdiction of Native Courts proceedings as well as promote ICT knowledge, leadership and legislation, a total of RM200,000 has been allocated to implement nine training sessions to the relevant Customary Heads and Native Court staff. ....
