Even though his nationally reputed watering hole was shuttered last spring and again all winter by COVID-19, Palmer s Bar owner Tony Zaccardi considers himself one of the lucky ones.
We just so happen to have this big, amazing patio, Zaccardi said. It d be a waste not to use it for something good.
That something is live music.
Sensing pandemic-weary music fans desperate urge to get out and rock out, Palmer s is among a handful of Twin Cities venues getting an early jump on the (hopefully) warmer weather by hosting outdoor gigs starting now, or very soon. ....

You could bring a few friendly voices into your home via the cutely titled Pants Optional NYE Jam, a concert live from the Hook and Ladder Theater in Minneapolis. The lineup includes Dave Simonett of Trampled By Turtles and Dead Man Winter, Lady Lark, Drag Queen Lip Sync Battle, The Mall (which has members of Solid Gold, Cecil Otter of Doomtree and Jacob Mullis of Fort Wilson Riot) and Your Smith (DJ set).

First Avenue was boarded up in June, in the aftermath of unrest throughout the city.
One of the happiest moments I ve witnessed at First Avenue occurred this past January. What a deceptive start to the year that was.
It arrived at the end of First Ave s annual Best New Bands showcase, which proved unusually solid and entertaining start to finish this time around from the smooth electro-emoting of FruitPunchLoverBoy to the reverberating psyche-rock of Muun Bato to the anti-hipster Southern rock of the Mae Simpson Band. ....
