In the latest interview in our series highlighting the fight for gender equality, Maria Cuba, Senior Diversity and Belonging Business Partner at Worldwide Olympic Partner Airbnb, talks about the company’s ongoing initiatives to nurture female talent and enable women to move into senior roles.
Born in Puerto Rico, where she graduated in political science, Cuba is one of Airbnb’s earliest employees and the founder of Airbnb Latino Employee Resource Group “Juntos”.
Her sensitivity towards diversity and inclusion matters led her to the role of Global Diversity Lead. In 2019, she was promoted to Senior Diversity and Belonging Business Partner for Airbnb’s Experiences division. Her brief is to spearhead the drive to build a more diverse and inclusive workplace at the San Francisco-based business.

St. Photios National Shrine Executive Director Polly Hillier Recognized for Women's History Month
The St. Photios National Shrine congratulates its Executive Director Polly Hillier for being recognized by the St. Johns Cultural Council for Women's History Month!
Polly Maouris Hillier came to St. Augustine from New Zealand in 2005 to work at St. Photios National Shrine. A native of the Hudson Valley, she serves as the Executive Director of the Shrine, which is known affectionately by locals as the “Jewel of St. George Street.”
Her career in the not-for-profit sector, experience as an educator, love of Orthodox Christianity, and her interest in history were a perfect foundation for working at the first shrine of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

This past week I had the privilege of hosting a conversation with Teresa Samaniego, Vice President of Diversity and Community Engagement with ABC7 to closeout Women History Month. We had six amazing women that served on the panel sharing wisdom to help other women navigate successfully through the pandemic, social unrest, and uncertainty around the vaccine. The wisdom shared and imparted both educated and illuminated. I want to thank each of the panelists for volunteering their time to speak into the lives of women everywhere.

Aviatrix Jackie Cochran is the most fascinating woman you've never heard of

Aviatrix Jackie Cochran is the most fascinating woman you’ve never heard of
Cochran ‘was a huge force in aviation,’ space historian and author Amy Shira-Teitel says

Jacqueline Cochran was a record-breaking aviatrix, entrepreneur and political mover and shaker who was close enough with President Lyndon B. Johnson that he refused to let her call him Mr. President.
Yet Cochran’s legacy as the first woman to break the sound barrier in 1953 and her role in the Mercury 13 women astronaut testing program rarely gets a mention.
“I can’t believe I never heard of her,” Shira-Teitel said. “She led the women’s Air Force service pilots in the second World War, was the first woman to fly to the sound barrier, saved LBJ’s life one day, was friends with multiple presidents, was just a huge force in aviation, and held more records than any pilot male or female, the world over, when she died in 1980.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tonika Brockman faced challenges climbing the corporate ladder. She overcame those challenges through education, getting creative and being client-centered.
Now, Brockman is Liberty Bank's Regional Vice President for all of Kansas and Missouri. It's a career she calls her purpose.
"I decided that I wanted to come to Liberty Bank last March at the height of the Black Lives Matter Movement. From a personal standpoint, it became very disheartening as I moved up in the ranks of banking and supported a more affluent clientele that there was no minority in my book of business," Brockman said.
