26-Year-Old Bethel Grad Joins Biden's White House Team

Danbury native and Bethel High grad Abdullah Hasan has been offered a White House communication job.
Hasan s story begins in India before he was born when his parents emigrated from India to the United States and settled in Danbury, where Hasan was born. He attended Hayestown Elementary School until second grade, when his family moved to Bethel, where he graduated from Bethel High in 2012.
This will be Hasan s second go-round at the White House. He previously worked for President Barack Obama s administration, where he also worked in communications.

He is now the director for communications for the White House Office of Management and Budget. At Bethel High, Hasan was the junior and senior class president and was named the World Language Honors Society head. ....

BENNINGTON â Every weekday in front of St. Peterâs Episcopal Church, on Pleasant Street, volunteers offer members of the public free hot drinks and pleasant conversation.
Itâs called the Community Coffee Pot project and it runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. All are welcome to visit. The outreach sprouted from a meeting of the Greater Bennington Interfaith Council. It was born out of frustration about not being able to find daytime shelter the homeless this winter, said Mary McGuinness, a member of St. Peterâs who participates in the interfaith group. Since day one of this pandemic, educators across Alaska have voiced concern for vulnerable students at high risk of disengaging or slipping out of contact with teachers. Rural educators have actively pursued every option to prevent that from happening. Nowhere has this been more apparent than in rural communities like Bethel.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy authorized a disaster declaration Monday for a Southwest Alaska village that has not had running water for more than three weeks since its water plant burned down.
The action will unlock funding for a long-term solution, but officials said Monday that it does not change the current response.
“A declaration of disaster is really just a securing of funding streams for recovery,” said Paul Nelson, director of the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. “Response continues to happen whether there’s a declaration in place or not.” ....
