Duterte's Sinopharm jab did not violate any laws, asserts Roque – Manila Bulletin

Malacañang maintained that President Duterte did not break any law when he had himself inoculated with Chinese-made Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine even if it has not been granted an emergency use authorization (EUA) by the country’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque insisted that the use of Sinopharm falls under the compassionate use permit issued by the FDA back in February for the inoculation of the members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG).

“It is covered by compassionate use so as far as the President is concerned he did not violate any laws because precisely it was administered by the PSG hospital although physically administered by the health secretary himself so covered po yan ng (by) compassionate use permit,” he said in his virtual presser on Tuesd ....

Duterte chose Sinopharm vaccine on doctors' advice

President Duterte chose state-owned and Chinese-made Sinopharm over other coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines because of the recommendation of his doctors, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said on Tuesday, May 4.

“Unfortunately, I was not privy doon sa mga (to the) conversation ng presidente sa kanyang mga (of the president with his) doctor but I understand ang (the) choice ni presidente (of the President) was guided also by his doctors,” he said in his virtual press briefing.
The Chief Executive particularly chose a vaccine with an inactivated virus as the platform because this has been used for at least 140 years, Roque added. ....

Canada Spent Nearly $6 Million on Chinese Contracts Since Arrest of ‘2 Michaels’
Canada has awarded nearly $6 million in contracts to China-based firms since Beijing’s arbitrary detention of Canadians Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig, according to Conservative MP John Williamson.
First reported by Blacklock’s, Williamson, through an inquiry on March 10, received reports showing that federal departments and agencies issued $5.8 million in contracts to firms based in China or owned by firms based there between 2019 and 2020.
“Beijing holds two Canadians hostage, spies on our companies, undermines our institutions and openly threatens us,” Williamson posted on Twitter Wednesday. “Yet it’s business as usual in Ottawa as Canada’s Liberals hand millions of tax dollars to Chinese firms.” ....
