Belmar man charged with 40 counts of drug related offenses

Belmar Police have arrested a man allegedly responsible for the wheeling and dealing of drugs in the borough.
The department announced Monday that they ve arrested a borough resident behind the sale of illegal narcotics in the community.
Police wrapped up a month long narcotic distribution investigation when they executed a search warrant at the River Ridge Apartment complex along 1st and Ocean Avenue and arrested 37-year old Robert Clayton who was then charged with 40 counts of narcotic related offenses with 36 of them being indictable crimes.
Clayton is now charged with 11 counts of intent to distribute narcotics including heroin, crystal methamphetamine, Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) over 1 ounce, Ketamine, Xanax, Tramadol, Adderall, Carisoprodol, Alprazolam and Methadone. ....

Two injured seals recovering after Jersey Shore beach rescues

Two injured seals were rescued from Jersey Shore beaches by the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, where they are both receiving treatment and are on the path to recovery. One of the animals, a harbor seal, was found at a beach in Strathmere, Cape May County on Feb. 4. The other seal was found Feb. 11 in Belmar. ....

Cities consider 'Right to Return' for historically displaced residents

Like many cities across the country, the City of Santa Monica is attempting to right the wrongs of the past and it’s looking for local residents to help determine how by completing an online survey.
City leaders are calling on the community to give their input about the possibility of adding a new “Right to Return” criteria to the city’s Below Market Housing program, which is a local initiative that provides Santa Monica residents and workers with apartments in the private sector at a rent that is lower than market rate.
“There are about six questions on the survey but the key question that’s driving this policy is the first question, and that question is how do you think historically displaced residents, their parents, legal guardians, or grandparents should be prioritized in the current setup,” said Natasha Guest Kingscote, a Human Services Administrator who is overseeing the survey efforts. ....

Not too many organizations have been in operation for almost 100 years.
That s why it was shocking to hear the news that the Belmar First Aid Squad, the nation’s oldest volunteer first aid squad will stop operations on March 31, 2021.
Tapinto.net broke the news and it has caught the community off guard. Even Belmar Mayor Mark Walsifer said he was shocked.
So why after 93 years of service is the BFAS going away? The answer is pretty simple. Money.

The stress of operating the BFAS at a deficit in these uncertain times along with the hours required to operate what has become a year-round 24/7 business with two dozen employees in a highly regulated environment has taken a toll on the officers and members of the BFAS. ....
