With Back Rent Due, SoMa LGBTQ Nightclub Oasis Turns to Crowdfunding, Telethon to Prevent Permanent Closure
Among the nightclubs and music venues that have suffered deeply in San Francisco over the last year, one of the relative newest, Oasis, could face permanent closure without some immediate help from patrons, or the federal or local government.
The six-year-old LGBTQ nightspot at 11th and Folsom doubles as a drag and cabaret venue and a dance club, and it was opened by local drag stars Heklina and D Arcy Drollinger with a couple of business partners. It has kept itself afloat and in the news over the last year through various means, including, like some other beloved queer bars around town, a crowdfunding effort last spring. SFist reported on the club s Meals on Heels drag-and-dinner delivery service last September, just as it was reaching the pages of the New York Times and CNN, and the club was able to reopen its rooftop for distanced drag shows and drinks and food ....

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday, Feb. 9, to create a San Francisco Music and Entertainment Venue Recovery Fund to provide grants to venues affected by the pandemic. ....

Bay Area Reporter :: SF leaders seek nightlife relief; handful of Castro bars received PPP loans


Additionally, a handful of Castro area bars received federal assistance last year through the paycheck protection program.
The nightlife fund, proposed by District 6 Supervisor Matt Haney, follows other city programs like fee waivers that have been passed by the Board of Supervisors.
Some $5 million in fee and tax waivers, introduced by gay District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, passed the board January 5. The waivers and referrals are specifically geared to help entertainment and nightlife venues on the one hand and restaurants on the other.
The city will provide financial relief for approximately 300 businesses that have a Place of Entertainment permit and that have gross receipts of less than $20 million, representing a total of approximately $2.5 million in support for these businesses, a January 5 news release explains. ....
