Disaster assistance available from other sources if FEMA can't help | Community Alert


Not all residents needing aid after February’s storms are eligible for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
But many state and other federal agencies, working both independently and in cooperation with FEMA, offer free services, programs and grants to residents who might need disaster assistance.
Many of these government entities that might be of help are listed here:
Texas Health & Human Services Commission: HHSC is allowing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients to use their food benefits to purchase hot foods and ready-to-eat meals through the end of March. Foods such as rotisserie chicken or grocery store deli foods can be purchased at retailers that accept SNAP anywhere in the state, using the Lone Star Card. ....

Replacement SNAP Benefits
Recipients who lost food and/or their Lone Star card in the winter storms can apply for replacement food benefits for both regular Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)  allotments and SNAP emergency allotments provided in response to COVID-19. 
SNAP benefits recipients are encouraged to request replacement benefits through one of the following options:  
Dial 2-1-1 and select option 2.  
Download and complete Form H1855 (Affidavit for Nonreceipt or Destroyed Food Stamp Benefits),  
Once completed, the form can be faxed to 1-877-447-2839, or  
Mailed to Texas Health and Human Services Commission, PO Box 149027, Austin, TX 78714-9027.  ....

More resources available to help those with damage from winter storm
There are additional ways you can get much-needed help following the winter storm in mid-February. FOX 26 s Heather Sullivan has more.
HOUSTON - A credit counseling agency and legal aid groups are offering assistance filing FEMA applications and insurance claims after the ice storm left so many with burst pipes. 
Open this up and this is just overflowing with dirty water and it has a horrendous stench, said Joaquin Escobar, showing us his family water main. 
Escobar said his family lost running water when their home s pipes burst.  But he says his application to FEMA for help was quickly declined.  ....
