A combined Final Four? Gender equity report calls for it


The NCAA men’s basketball tournament typically has the biggest spotlight when it reaches the Final Four, with the best teams – or luckiest – to have survived March Madness playing the final games to determine a national champion.
Now imagine how it could look with the women’s tournament bringing its Final Four to the same city on the same weekend.
The idea of a combined Final Four sounds attractive as a showcase for Division I college basketball and it is also one of the key recommendations in a scathing report examining how the NCAA conducts its championship events when it comes to gender equity. ....

WACO, Texas (May 25, 2021) – Danielle Parrish, Ph.D., professor in the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work at Baylor University, has been awarded a $3.1 million grant by the National Institutes of Health to study the efficacy of risk reduction intervention efforts for young women age 14-17 in the juvenile justice system. The grant will be dispersed over five years, beginning May 2021. The project, titled CHOICES-TEEN: Efficacy of a Bundled Risk Reduction Intervention for Juvenile Justice Females, is an effort to fill gaps in care for at-risk young women in the juvenile justice system. ....

Dr. James Curry was recently recognized by both the Texas House and Senate for his 47 years of service to Baylor, including 14 as chair of Baylor’s political science department. The longtime director of the Bob Bullock Scholars Program and the Baylor Washington Internship Program, Curry has helped countless students find internships with members of the Texas Legislature and in our nation’s capital.
