Ontario County officials: Be patient when it comes to reopening schools

CANANDAIGUA Ontario County officials are urging patience from students and families as calls increase to resume full-time in-person learning for school districts.
In a statement released Thursday night that referred to the aspirational policy statements made by President Joe Biden and members of his administration when it came to reopening schools, county officials said there has been little advancement in updated policy from health officials. This includes directions and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state Department of Health and New York s Education Department.
While acknowledging the frustration from students, parents and districts, County Administrator Chris DeBolt tried to dispel some misinformation that he had come across, including the possibility that county health departments could make decisions around when to permit regular in-person learning. ....

Ontario County Public Health: Contact tracing continuing cases tied to funeral in Geneva

HOPEWELL Ontario County Public Health is investigating a cluster of 10 COVID-19 cases tied to a funeral in Geneva earlier this month.
The funeral was held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 11 at St. Paul’s Full Baptist Church, 76 East North St. The family name was not released for privacy reasons, according to health department officials. An obituary notice of a person with a funeral that morning and location indicates that those who attend must wear masks and social distance.
The county health department’s nursing staff is in the process of investigating and contact tracing the cases. Several individuals who have attended the funeral have tested positive for COVID-19, health officials said. ....

Ontario County Public Health: Soaring COVID-19 numbers prompt urgent warning

CANANDAIGUA Ontario County Public Health officials are saying that COVID-19 cases are at an all-time high in the county, prompting an urgent warning for residents to avoid gathering during the upcoming holidays.
For the first 15 days of December, the Ontario County Public Health Department reported 869 positive COVID-19 cases, already exceeding the total combined cases reported for October (220) and November (632).
In addition, according to the New York Forward COVID-19 dashboard, the Finger Lakes region is leading all 10 regions of the state in positive coronavirus test results with a seven-day average of 8.2%.
County officials said the region is in jeopardy of entering a yellow, orange or, worst case, red zone, which would place additional restrictions on public gatherings and result in non-essential business closings. ....
