As we approach the final week of April, this month brought an injection of positivity and optimism to the nation’s psyche as the gradual lifting of restrictions began. On Monday, the next phase begins.
Among the changes, outdoor activities are again top of the agenda as the road out of lockdown takes shape. This will see the reopening of outdoor visitor attractions (such as Dublin Zoo and heritage sites), outdoor sports facilities including golf and tennis and non-contact training.
With these gradual easings, weekend and family outings will only grow in popularity and scope as people begin to partake in even more outdoor pursuits and re-engage in their preferred leisure activities. ....

The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) is collaborating with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to build capacity to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. CARPHA, the sole public health agency responsible for preventing disease, promoting and protecting health in the Caribbean, together with PHAC, continues to strengthen the capacity of CARPHA Member States (CMS) through the Facilitated – Acute Critical Events Simulation (F-ACES) course, delivered by the prestigious Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

We begin this week with a cautionary tale titled “What community transmission looks like.” An event held in February to celebrate the opening of a bar in rural Illinois led to 46 cases of COVID-19, including 26 patrons of the bar, three bar employees, and 17 people who weren’t there at all but got infected by someone who was.

Four people who attended the event had COVID-19-like symptoms that day. One attendee was asymptomatic but had received a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 the day before the party.
