GMUG to Host Public SBEADMR and Taylor Park Field Trips


The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forests will be hosting its annual Public Field Trips for the Taylor Park Vegetation Management Project (Taylor Park) and the Spruce Beetle Epidemic and Aspen Decline Management Response (SBEADMR) project July 20 and July 22, respectively. These field trips provide an opportunity for interested individuals to participate in discussions and engage with GMUG staff, adaptive management group members and science teams on topics including the implementation timeline, temporary roads, treatment unit prescriptions and resource concerns relevant to Taylor Park and SBEADMR.
All interested members of the public are invited to attend this year’s field trips. The Taylor Park field trip, co-hosted with Western Colorado University, will be held July 20 and will include stops at the Tincup and Trail Creek treatment areas. Environmental group sues over Washington County's Northern Corridor


Seven environmental groups filed a lawsuit Thursday against the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management over St. George s Northern Corridor Highway project. The plan to pave a 4-lane, 4.5 mile road across land that had been designated as protected habitat for the Mojave desert tortoise was approved late in the Trump administration, in what environmentalists say was a rushed and illegal move.
The plaintiffs, led by the local nonprofit Conserve Southwest Utah, take issue with the BLM s assessment of how recent wildfires in the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area may have changed the level of risk of the project to tortoises, with what they say was illegal use of Land and Water Conservation Funds to facilitate the project and with a lack of serious consideration of highway alternatives. ....

BLM seeks teacher for summer Teacher on Public Lands internship
PHOENIX – The Bureau of Land Management Arizona State Office is seeking a valley teacher (K-12) for the Teacher on the Public Lands, Hands on the Land summer internship program. The teacher intern will be working remotely at home and periodically at the Pueblo Grande Museum during their summer internship.
The internship will last for eight weeks between June and August 2021 for a total of 160 hours at the discretion of the teacher schedule. The teacher will receive a $2,200 professional development stipend, paid tuition for a three credit hour graduate course at the University of Colorado–Denver, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience promoting hands-on learning through some of the United States’ most treasured cultural and natural resources.  ....
