Animal lover helps save animals from the slaughterhouse | Somerset County Gazette

AN animal loving administrator has been volunteering at an animal sanctuary to help keep furry and feathered friends out of the slaughterhouse.
Charlotte Southwood has been giving up time each week to work as a volunteer caring for rescue animals at Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary.
The small family-run non-profit organisation, located just outside Wells, saves animals who were otherwise going to the slaughterhouse or whose owners can no longer take care of them anymore, giving them a second chance at happy lives.
With over 100 animals on the farm their menagerie includes sheep, horses, pigs, chickens, ferrets, goats, and a turkey. ....

Hospital volunteer honored for service

Volunteers provide valuable services to their communities and share the great reward of helping others. During National Volunteer Week, April 18 through 24, the Mariners Hospital team recognized volunteer Kathleen Violette.
For the past 12 years, Violette has spent more than 5,000 hours helping patients, family members, guests and staff at the Tavernier hospital. She has worked as a greeter in Outpatient Services and as volunteer coordinator, directing other volunteers and conducting interviews. She currently volunteers from home, helping Molly Vlach, MSN, R.N., CIC, Infection Control manager at Mariners Hospital, with hand hygiene computer entry.
âKathleen is dependable, trustworthy and compassionate,â Vlach said. âShe is an asset to the hospital, and we are lucky to have her as a volunteer.â ....

During National Volunteer Week, Monarch Landing senior living community had a large number of residents to recognize for their efforts. Among the generous group of volunteers were three noted for the assistance provided to their fellow residents and staff during the year of COVID-19.
Ron Sellberg was honored for his work with Monarch Landing s in-house television station, MLTV. Much of the senior living community s entertainment and programming during COVID was shared with residents via MLTV.
