Watch now: Historic back porch gets an upgrade along Monona Drive

There isn’t much remaining of the town of Blooming Grove.
Once a rural enclave east of Lake Monona, most of the town over the years has been consumed by the cities of Madison and Monona.
It’s been dissected by Interstate 39-90 and the Beltline. The fire department was dissolved in 2015 and the town now receives fire protection and ambulance service from the Madison Fire Department. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office provides police services, but by 2027 what’s left of the town, much of it east of the interstate, will be absorbed by the city of Madison.
Located along Monona Drive and adjacent to the Monona Golf Course, the Nathaniel Dean House was constructed in 1856 for a more than 500-acre farm for Nathaniel and Harriet Dean, who had sold their dry goods store in Downtown Madison. ....

Families invited to R Park egg hunt

Through Monday, the Jackson Hole Land Trust is hosting the annual R Park Egg Hunt/Buesqueda de Heuevos, at R Park.
The event in the West Bank park is designed to encourage social distancing. Families are invited to visit at the time of their choice and search for Easter egg-themed installations created by four local artists.
The art installations are hidden throughout the park, and there’s a secret hidden letter on each one. Together the four letters create a code word that is the key to unlocking a trunk of candy-filled Easter eggs on the porch of the R Park. ....

Middletown educators team up for porch visits for students who are struggling with remote learning

They’re keeping tabs on students who are struggling with remote learning.
It’s all about intervention and it’s paying off.
An army of Blue Dragon educators huddled at Middletown High School on Wednesday.
“We know that students who are successful their freshman year are more likely to graduate on time,” said Assistant Principal Dawn Brookes, Middletown High School.
The Connecticut RISE Network, a non-profit supporting education, also knows this. It recently published a report on hybrid and remote learning in our state.
“So, what the researched revealed is that students who have chosen to be remote are more likely to be disengaged than their peers who have chosen to either be hybrid or in-person,” said Nichelle Woodson, CT RISE Network. ....
