High winds lead to closures of ferries, Friday Walleye Fest events

PORT CLINTON - Mayor Mike Snider declared a state of emergency due to flooding for the city of Port Clinton Friday afternoon.
“Many roads are impassable due to high water, downed trees and power lines,” Snider said in a news release. “All vehicles are asked to stay off the streets until the state of emergency has been lifted.”
Snider also advised using caution as throughout the community manhole covers and catch basins have been becoming detached and creating pedestrian hazards.
FirstEnergy reported that between 21 and 100 customers were without power at Put-in-Bay as of 3 p.m. Friday,

American Rescue Plan gives $7.86 million to Ottawa County, $1.2 million to Port Clinton

The American Rescue Plan signed by President Joe Biden is directing major funding to communities and counties around the country, including $7.86 million in emergency funding directed to Ottawa County.
Also getting emergency funding will be the City of Port Clinton ($1.2 million), the villages of Oak Harbor ($530,000), Marblehead ($170,000), Kelleys Island ($60,000), Put-in-Bay ($30,000), and Catawba Island Township ($500,000).
“It seems as if our small community continuously struggles to get ahead of our needs. The economic impact of the past year has not helped our position,” said Port Clinton Mayor Mike Snider.
“However, the resources offered to us through the American Rescue Plan will certainly help us begin to turn that corner and will bring some light to what has been a very dark time.” ....
