Nigerian champions Rivers Angels earned a historic win in their first ever continental game, when they defeated Ghana’s Hassacas Ladies 2-0 in their WAFU B zonal qualifiers for the maiden CAF Women’s Champions League at the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan on Saturday.
Vivian Ikechukwu assisted Deborah Abiodun with the opening goal for the Port Harcourt-based side in the 17th minute, before Ezenagu Maryann dribbled her way past a sea of legs before scoring inside the box in the 52nd minute.
With the win, Angels pocketed N2m after the Rivers State chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Desmond Akawor, promised the team N1m for every goal they score during the qualifiers. ....
