Parents' group wants Polk County School Board to revoke mask requirement

He also said the School Board has not listened to the recommendations from top state officials, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran, and Florida Department of Health State Surgeon General Dr. Scott A. Rivkees, instead opting to listen to doctors recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.
State government officials have recommended removing masks, and the governor has ordered county and city lawmakers not to institute any more emergency orders. Doctors with the CDC and WHO have recommended continued mask use.
The school district, however, is not ignoring anyone.
Its last meeting was April 27, nearly a week before the governor rescinded emergency orders put in place last year at the start of the worldwide pandemic. Lake Wales schools privileged to handpick students
As a former teacher for 24 years at Janie Howard Wilson Elementary School in Lake Wales, I was disturbed after reading the front page article about the Lake Wales Charter Schools [ ‘Turmoil’ roils charter schools, Dec. 20].
I was one of the original writers for our school to become a charter school. The reason we wanted to leave the Polk County School System was that we were not being treated like the schools in Lakeland. A lot of the funds were going to Lakeland schools and the Ridge was being left out. As a matter of fact, our school was one of the last to get an outdoor covering for our playground area. ....
