Letters to the editor (Jan. 27, 2021) The Ledger Lake Wales schools privileged to handpick students As a former teacher for 24 years at Janie Howard Wilson Elementary School in Lake Wales, I was disturbed after reading the front page article about the Lake Wales Charter Schools ["‘Turmoil’ roils charter schools," Dec. 20]. I was one of the original writers for our school to become a charter school. The reason we wanted to leave the Polk County School System was that we were not being treated like the schools in Lakeland. A lot of the funds were going to Lakeland schools and the Ridge was being left out. As a matter of fact, our school was one of the last to get an outdoor covering for our playground area.
