Restoration : Should we / Shouldn't we? A discussion on preservation of cars

Re: Restoration : Should we / Shouldn t we? A discussion on preservation of cars
If I were to take a car and clean it everyday which involves wiping the paintwork daily chances are in 15 to 20 years I would have wiped the paint layer off and exposed the underlying primer. So also the leather.
So to ensure a car remains blemish free for a 100 years not only would I need to not touch the paint but store it in a climate controlled environment as the heat, moisture and cold of seasonal changes wreaks havoc even if a car is parked on stilts in a covered garage. ....

If you go for a hike at the Pismo Preserve over the next few months, you may come across a herd of cattle grazing the rangeland area of the preserve to eat invasive weeds such as black mustard, help restore the diversity of native plant life and reduce the risk of wildfire.

Dr. Lori: Lighting works of art is critical, complex; avoid direct sunlight [antiques column]

Rembrandt van Rijn’s paintings are famous for their luminosity. When considering works by the Dutch master in major international museums, you might agree with most people who think that a Rembrandt painting looks pretty good in any light! I agree with that statement.
For art lovers, it is important to remember that there are certain methods to properly light your art masterpiece. While Rembrandt’s paintings seemingly glow of their own accord, various light sources are employed when masterpieces are installed in museums. The methods used by museum professionals and exhibition design experts regarding how to light works of art may help you to properly and safely light a work of art in your home. ....

Conservation or Preservation: What's the Difference?

(Photo : Linh Pham/Getty Images)
Conservation is a term used to describe efforts to make humans interaction with the ecosystem more secure while also consuming natural resources. Conservationists are usually in favor of policies that reduce human utilization of natural resources, but only where they are useful to humanity. Conservation may also refer to the decisions people make on a daily basis to reduce their consumption, such as taking shorter showers or installing solar panels. ....
