World No Tobacco Day is observed every year on 31 May. The celebration of this day informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies and what the World Health Organization (WHO) is doing to fight the use of tobacco and also what people around the world can do to claim their right to health.
Although the hazards of tobacco were not new, it is being said that tobacco users can be more vulnerable to COVID- 19 infection.

The use of tobacco leads to nearly 8 million deaths every year globally, according to the World Health Organization, predominantly due to lung and heart diseases. Today, doctors and scientists across America at National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centers and other organizations issued a joint statement urging the nation s health care systems, physicians, parents and children, and young adults to get the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination back on track.
Dramatic drops in annual well visits and immunizations during the COVID-19 pandemic have caused a significant vaccination gap and lag in vital preventive services among U.S. children and adolescents especially for the HPV vaccine. The pandemic also has exacerbated health disparities, leaving Black, Indigenous and other people of color; rural; and sexual minority adolescents at even greater risk for missed doses of this cancer prevention vaccine. ....
