Anti-Vax University? Stanford says fully-vaccinated students must be tested for COVID-19 twice a week!

Anti-Vax University? Stanford says fully-vaccinated students must be tested for COVID-19 twice a week!
Share:
Since March 2020, all students, faculty, and staff at Stanford have had to undergo regular COVID-19 testing: undergraduate and graduate students twice a week, and faculty whenever they visit campus. But starting May 2nd, graduate students have had to test only once a week, and testing for faculty/staff/postdoctoral researchers was made optional.
As for undergraduates, Stanford leaders wrote: “We’re asking for the continued partnership of our undergraduates in doing twice-weekly testing at this time.”
There is no exception for vaccinated students.
The
Review wants nothing to do with this “partnership.” We do not wish to be Stanford’s partners in promoting such a ridiculous policy. It is anti-scientific, anti-vax, and a colossal waste of resources. ....

Atlas, Ferguson, and Hanson: On Free Speech at Stanford

Atlas, Ferguson, and Hanson: On Free Speech at Stanford
What is the purpose of academic freedom?
Is it to allow all kinds of ideas to be expressed and explored, protecting even speech that people in the past considered heretical—protecting free expression that some people today would like to “cancel”? Or is it to allow co-workers in the ideological minority to be personally and selectively disparaged with impunity?
The answer for some faculty at Stanford University would appear to be the latter.
In a recent meeting of the Stanford Faculty Senate, four professors (Joshua Landy, Stephen Monismith, David Palumbo-Liu and David Spiegel) presented and then subsequently published a farrago of falsehoods directed against various fellows of the Hoover Institution. Their complaint was, first, that the Hoover fellows’ views were unapologetically conservative and, second, that they appeared antithetical to the majority of those of the Stanford community†....

A Triumphant Day in the Senate

A Triumphant Day in the Senate

Yesterday evening, the Stanford Faculty Senate met and debated a resolution which sought to create a faculty committee to study the University’s relationship with the Hoover Institution. The faculty who proposed the resolution, led by Professor of Comparative Literature David Palumbo-Liu, gave a detailed presentation expressing their concerns, and delivered a litany of charges against current and former Hoover fellows for making what they call “a travesty of honest intellectual debate”.
The resolution called for an ad hoc “impartial committee.” As Professor Palumbo-Liu explained, the committee would have a “blank check” to study and critique the Hoover Institution and its relationship to Stanford, and to propose reforms. To be clear, the Faculty Senate has absolutely no jurisdiction over Hoover; that authority lies with the President and Trustees. But ignoring the jurisdictional quest ....

Q&A: Stanford's engagement with the community

Q&A: Stanford’s engagement with the community
The leaders of Stanford’s Office of Community Engagement, Megan Swezey Fogarty and Preeti Hehmeyer, discuss the vision for the new office, the university’s engagement with its neighbors and the office’s initial work.
By Joel Berman
When Megan Swezey Fogarty was appointed Stanford’s first associate vice president for community engagement on March 1, she could not have foreseen how local, national and global events would shape the work of her new office.
