If Zuma pays back the money

Jacob Zuma can’t be a happy fella. Finding himself locked up in a cold cell can only be a lonely experience. He’s left with disturbing thoughts as he contemplates an unsure future. Also, the realisation that as a former president of a wonderful country, he’s leaving a deplorable legacy of having not only cocked a snoot at the constitution he helped ratify while still on the straight and narrow, but also as being the weakest party leader ever. Fraternising with and scoring from hardened criminals adds to the sorry list. So it’s not only a lumpy bed keeping him awake. ....

Rekord - Love Your City

Love Your City
I Love My City
The Jacaranda City - our heart, our home
When looking at other cities across South Africa, Pretoria is not the oldest by far, yet it holds a very significant place in history and in every Pretorian’s heart.
Since the city’s inception in 1855, a lot has changed. The streets have over the years played witness to political issues, festivals, marches, love stories and personal stories.
Sigh.

Former Home of South African Statesman Rumored To Be Haunted

A Ghost in the Library?
The parlor was the heart of the home, where besides children and grandchildren, many famous persons were entertained by Mrs. Isie Smuts playing her piano.
After several years of matrimony and raising seven children, General Smuts and his wife decided to occupy separate bedrooms. Smut’s unpretentious bedroom was located right next to the library, but he often preferred sleeping on an iron bedstead on the veranda outside, with his Greek testament next to the bed.
General Smuts preferred sleeping outside on the veranda.

Andrew Kenny's "Orania" column they don't want you to read

Andrew Kenny’s weekly column in The Citizen newspaper has built up a strong following over the years – the engineer being appreciated for his forthright and perceptive insights into the tragedy at the State’s electricity utility Eskom. But Kenny has other arrows in his quiver, including a curiosity that took him to Orania, the Afrikaner-only town in the Northern Cape province between Hopetown and Petrusville. Kenny was impressed with the civility of the people and safety of the environment; and intended telling his readers what he had found. Excepting, the editor decided the 400 words would offend The Citizen’s readers, rather ironic considering the newspaper was created and funded by the Apartheid Government. Here’s the column The Citizen doesn’t want you to read – with Kenny’s explanation of what went down. This piece was first published on Politicsweb. – Alec Hogg   ....
