CHICOPEE Protesters gathered in front of City Hall Tuesday to call for the resignation of a city councilor who said women wearing provocative clothing at “sketchy” nightclubs are at fault if they are sexually harassed.
About 20 residents held signs and chanted in a demonstration before a City Council meeting. The demonstrators called for Lucjan Galecki, who has served as the Ward 3 councilor for a year, to resign immediately.
The demonstration was organized by Our Revolution Chicopee. The group is calling for a recall provision to be added into the city charter and wants more information about sexual harassment training that will be offered to the council, said organizer Jeannette Rivera. ....

A Chicopee city councilor has been removed from all subcommittees after writing insensitive remarks about sexual assault survivors online last week.
“I am removing you from all your sub-committee assignments,” a letter from city council president Shane Brooks posted to Facebook states.

The rally, organized by Our Revolution Chicopee, was first posted to Facebook Tuesday night.
“Join the residents in Chicopee as they call for the immediate resignation of Ward 3 City Councilor, Lucjan Galecki for his perpetuation of rape-culture and abhorrent victim-blaming,” the Facebook event states. “All of which is a clear violation of the City’s code of ethics.”

Chicopee leaders are looking to make permanent changes to the city charter after a city councilor wrote insensitive remarks about sexual assault survivors online last week.
“Council President Shane Brooks along with myself, understand that the public is looking for an immediate response to the issue involving the Councilor from Ward 3,” Chicopee Mayor John Vieau said in a statement to MassLive. “The City Charter will need to be amended to add the appropriate mechanism to help rectify situations like this one.” ....
