MovieLabs updates ECP specs for added content protection

| 14 January 2021
In the latest part of the company’s plans to support human creative tasks by connecting them through software-mediated collaboration and automation, Motion Picture Laboratories (MovieLabs) has announced the latest steps in the MovieLabs Enhanced Content Protection (EPC) specification.
Originally published in 2013 and since widely implemented by industry partners, the EPC is said to be designed to raise the bar for protecting 4K, HDR and early window content in consumer distribution. The ECP spec is based on discussions with those partners and in response to evolving threats and the last version, ECP 1.2 was published in August 2018.
The latest version, ECP 1.3, primarily aims to address the risks posed by debugging interfaces left open in production units and by devices past their end-of-life for DRM and security updates that fail to patch known vulnerabilities. ....

They re basically curtains of death, said shark diver Walter Bernardis as he reached over the side of his zodiac inflatable boat to pull up a net bobbing in eastern South Africa s subtropical waters.
The 200-metre (-yard) stretch of mesh is meant to protect swimmers basking on the eastern coast s palm-lined beaches from shark attacks.
But conservationists say the nets trap any large animal that swims too close to shore, making no distinction between sharks, dolphins, dugongs, sea turtles and whales.

Protecting Bees From Fungicide Applications - AG INFORMATION NETWORK OF THE WEST

Protecting Bees From Fungicide Applications
Tuesday Jan 12th, 2021
The almond industry is always cognizant on keeping their big helper safe, which is the pollinating bee. Josette Lewis is Chief Scientific Officer of the Almond Board of California. She said fungicides are often needed due to the wet weather in the spring. And that s right at pollination season.
“Fungicides are often needed because of the wet weather during Almond Bloom. And there s some easy management practices to apply fungicides safely,” said Lewis. “The first is to apply them at night. Bees are not active after the sun goes down and the temperature starts to drop. So, if you apply the fungicide at night, you allow sufficient time for that to dry. So that it s no longer a threat to the bees when they re-emerged from their hives in the morning.” ....
