Ireland U19 winger Tyreik Wright subjected to 'sickening' online racist abuse


Aston Villa have reported sickening and abhorrent online racist abuse of Ireland Under-19 winger Tyreik Wright to West Midlands Police.
The Premier League club said the messages received on Wright s Instagram account had also been flagged to the social media platform.
A club statement read: Aston Villa Football Club is appalled by the racist abuse of one our academy players, Tyreik Wright.
Tyreik, who is currently on loan at Walsall, received sickening and abhorrent messages via his Instagram account, messages which the club have reported to both the social media platform and West Midlands Police.
The club is liaising with WMP s Hate Crime Unit who are now investigating this incident. ....

There have been calls for social media companies to do more to tackle racism on their platforms.
It comes after several footballers were racially abused online in recent weeks.
On Sunday, Manchester United player Anthony Martial was racially abused on Instagram after his side s 1-1 draw at West Brom.
It is the second time in three weeks that Martial has been targeted, while his club-mates Marcus Rashford, Axel Tuanzebe and Lauren James have all suffered abuse recently. Other players targeted include Chelsea players Antonio Rudiger and Reece James - the brother of United s Lauren - Swansea s Yan Dhanda, West Brom s Romaine Sawyers and young Southampton prospect Alex Jankewitz. ....
