Bad Astronomy | 'Oumuamua may be a nitrogen ice chunk blasted off an alien Pluto

But even then it didn t act like a comet. No carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, or dust was seen, which are very common in comets.
On top of all that, it was brightening and dimming with a regular period, indicating it wasn t spherical (and as it tumbled we saw a different geometry reflecting sunlight back to us). That s common enough, but it must have been a really weird shape to explain the extreme change in brightness seen, either shaped like a pancake or a cigar!
Lots of attempts were made to explain it. It s a hydrogen iceberg (unlikely). It s a fractal snowflake (cool, but also unlikely). It s a spaceship (no). ....

This 2018 illustration provided by William Hartmann and Michael Belton shows a depiction of the Oumuamua interstellar object as a pancake-shaped disk. A study published in March 2021 says the mystery object is likely a remnant of a Pluto-like world and shaped like a cookie. (William Hartmann and Michael Belton via AP)William Hartmann/AP
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) Our solar system’s first known interstellar visitor is neither a comet nor asteroid as first suspected and looks nothing like a cigar. A new study says the mystery object is likely a remnant of a Pluto-like world and shaped like a cookie. ....

NGC 1808 Starburst Galaxy in Columba - Astronomy Magazine - Interactive Star Charts, Planets, Meteors, Comets, Telescopes

NGC 1808 is barred spiral galaxy located in the southern constellation of Columba. It was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop from Australia, who describe it as a faint nebula . It is a barred spiral with marked similarities to our home Milky Way Galaxy. NGC 1808 is distinguished by a peculiar nucleus, an unusually warped disk, and strange flows of hydrogen gas out from the central regions. Amidst all of this, because NGC 1808 is undergoing with intense star formation activity it has been deemed a starburst galaxy. NGC 1808 is relatively close to our Milky Way, and spans in about 35,000 light-years.
