Get rid of unused pesticides the right way


To participate in the Clean Sweep Collection Program, individuals must
register products planned for disposal by July 22. Registration for the program includes completing and returning a form to IDOA. From there, participants will be contacted about specific dates and locations of collection sites.
What to do with containers
If you have pesticide containers lying around, consider the IDOA Pesticide Container Recycling Program. Empty pesticide containers impact the environment by cluttering landfills, Severns says. This program allows old pesticide containers to be recycled into pallets through a contractor.

MACOMB The McDonough County Health Department this week reported the death of a man in his 90s due to coronavirus. His is the 61st COVID-19 death in the county.
The health department also reported 21 new recoveries and seven new COVID-19 cases since last week. The new cases involve four women and three men. Five of the cases are from Macomb, one is from Blandinsville, and one is from Prairie City.
Ages of the victims are listed as one in the teens, three in their 20s, one in the 30s, and two in their 40s. The new cases raise the county s confirmed count to 2,881. There are still seven active cases and 2,813 people have recovered. ....

A couple of weeks ago, the “Voice” printed an obituary for Robert Henry who was always called “Bob” a retired WIU biology professor who died at age 93. He was a quiet man, but he was always friendly and he was deeply committed to his work as a botanist. In the history of our region, no one else has contributed as much to understanding the plants that characterize this town, county, and region.
Bob was born in Columbus, Ohio, during 1927. He had an early interest in botany, but attending high school during World War II made him determined to serve in the military. He joined the Air Force shortly after the war ended and served in France until 1947, before going on to college. ....

McDonough County now in Illinois Bridge Phase

MACOMB The McDonough County Health Department has announced that the county is now in the Illinois Bridge Phase for COVID-19 mitigations.
Bars and restaurants can operate at 60 percent capacity, indoor social events can accommodate up to 250 people, and outdoor gatherings can accommodate up to 500.
A standard of 60 percent of capacity is allowed for personal care establishments, health and fitness locations, offices, amusement parks, zoos, and performing arts areas.
The health department is sponsoring a walk-in coronavirus vaccination clinic today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Blandinsville Park  tennis court.
Health Department Public Information Officer Raeva Farris-Tucker said, The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available to youth ages 12 through 17.  Vaccination clinics for anyone 12 or older have been scheduled:  Friday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at Macomb Schools; Monday, May 24 from 9 to 11 a. m. at West Prairie Schools, and from 2:30 to ....
