Cairo, April 19 (IANS) With its dark-walled and dimly-lit open rooms, the crypt-like Royal Mummies Hall at Cairo s new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) has opened to visitors for the first time, displaying 20 mummies of ancient kings and queens.

A spectacular parade with motorcycles, chariots and men and women dressed in ancient Egyptian attire moved 22 Pharaonic mummies through Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo to their new home - the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) last week. 
 
 
The royals on the move included Ramses II, the longest-reigning pharaoh in 12th century BC, renowned for signing the first peace treaty and Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt’s only woman pharaoh. The queen wore a false beard to break the tradition of women playing secondary roles in the royal hierarchy. The other pharaohs belonged to the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th reigns. COVID-19 by the numbers
New Mexico health officials did not release COVID-19 data over Easter weekend. On Friday, the state reported 218 new cases and seven more deaths; Santa Fe County had eight new cases and one additional death. As of then, New Mexico had 192,152 cases all told, with 173,981 designated as recovered.
The state also did not update its vaccine dashboard over the weekend, leaving the percentage of New Mexicans partially vaccinated at 47.5%, with 30.1% fully inoculated.
Forbes magazine on Friday highlighted New Mexico as the first state to provide vaccines for more than half its adult residents, while NBC News described us as the state closest to achieving herd immunity. ....
