San Francisco Board of Supervisors expected to pass bill to give $5 hazard pay raise to grocery, retail workers

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) San Francisco supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved an emergency ordinance to temporarily raise wages by $5 per hour for some grocery and retail workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Board of Supervisors President Shamann Walton, the emergency ordinance calling for the additional hazard pay is urgently needed to further support the city s essential workers, who are at higher risk of contracting the virus as they can t work from home and often work indoors and serve a variety of customers on a daily basis.
Our essential grocery workers are often paid minimum wage and are expected to take high risks by constant exposure to the public. Mall, mobile clinics and more: How COVID-19 vaccine is being deployed in Cayuga County

What started with vaccination clinics at one site in Cayuga County has grown into a larger operation with mobile clinics and a new location at Fingerlakes Mall to inoculate hundreds of residents in a day.
The Cayuga County Health Department is leading the push. After receiving its first shipment of doses in January and a weekly allotment that has ranged from 200 to 500 doses, the department has administered 7,884 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. That s nearly half of the total number of residents (16,806) that have received at least one dose. So far, 8,365 county residents have been fully vaccinated.
Early on, the health department held daily clinics at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES. These clinics were open to eligible residents who could sign up for an appointment. But because of shifting state guidance, the department had to change course. The state Department of Health directed county health departments to focus on vaccinating eligible workers instead of residents ....

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Changes are coming to who pharmacies can vaccinate.
On March 10th, pharmacies can begin vaccinating people over 60 years old and teachers, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday.
Cuomo expanded eligibility to anyone over the age of 60, previously pharmacies were vaccinating people over 65.
Pharmacies can only vaccinate people over 60, and now teachers. They cannot vaccinate any other eligible groups. Cuomo said it follows federal guidance prioritizing teacher vaccination.
“Once those announcements come down, our phones start to ring,” said Ivylea pharmacy owner Chuck Barone. ....
