Stephanie Murphy, Val Demings Quit House for Senate Democrat Primary

Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) will challenge Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) in the Democrat Senate primary race, abandoning the House for an opportunity to challenge incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
“Stephanie Murphy has never lost a race, despite representing one of the most competitive seats in the country,” Murphy’s staffer Lauren Calmet told Florida Politics. “She is an effective legislator, a proven fundraiser, and exactly the type of person who can beat Marco Rubio. Should she decide to run for the US Senate, she will win.”
Murphy’s political calculation to not challenge Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for governor, leaving the task to Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL), comes as the Republican-controlled state legislature will presumably add a district in Central Florida where Murphy and Demings’ districts are located. ....

For the rural mountain counties which, along with urban El Paso County, make up the current 5th Congressional District, it could mean big changes.

A Robin Hood -style policy, redistributing the big salaries of public service chief executives to lower-paid workers, would be more effective than the Government-ordered pay freeze, according to a leading business academic.
The directive, which essentially means those in the public sector earning more than $60,000 will only get a pay rise in exceptional circumstances for the next three years, has infuriated some workers. ....
