HOLLY HILL Pictona is not only becoming a regional draw for pickleball players, it s also putting the tiny city of Holly Hill on the map nationally for enthusiasts of the fast-growing sport.
And an upcoming $4 million expansion project could make the facility one of the largest of its kind in the country.
The 24-court complex that opened a year ago hosted an International Federation of Pickleball tournament in April that drew 480 players from throughout the United States as well as a handful of other countries including the United Kingdom, India and Costa Rica. ....

Pictona pickleball founders withdraw bid to take over Holly Hill YMCA

HOLLY HILL The founders of the new Pictona pickleball complex on Ridgewood Avenue have withdrawn their offer to take over management of the city-owned Holly Hill YMCA facility across the street.
We d love to be able to help offer more fitness programs in Holly Hill, but we were concerned (after evaluating the situation further) that we couldn t afford the risk financially which could have jeopardized Pictona, said Rainer Martens of his and his wife Julie s decision,
The Ormond Beach couple are the founders and major backers of the new $6 million Pictona complex that opened in July and has quickly added several hundred members. The Martens contributed more than $4 million of the cost to construct, equip and run the not-for-profit 24-court pickleball facility at the city s Hollyland Park. Pictona includes an on-site restaurant, a members clubhouse, an open-to-the-public senior activity center and facilities for other recreational sports including shuffleboard, bocce ba ....
