Ground finally broken for new VA Outpatient Clinic

RAPID CITY, S.D. A groundbreaking over a decade in the making is going to go a long way towards improving veteran health care in the area.
After about 17 years of hard work by Dream Design International, the VA Black Hills Health Care System, our congressional delegation, and many others, ground was finally broken Friday morning on the future site of the VA Community-based Outpatient Clinic in Rapid City.
The approximately 49,000 square foot facility will be located off Mount Rushmore Road and Catron Boulevard near many of the VA’s health care and community partners.
With that much space, the VA will be expanding its services to the area’s approximately 7,000 veterans. The new clinic will also include a women’s health center. ....

Army Veteran Eddie Pina worked hard with Senator John Thune’s office to fix his DD214 (Discharge from Active Duty). He arrived at Thune’s office to receive his Combat Infantry Badge with Star to show he served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was presented with the Combat Infantry Badge 2nd award and was also presented with ten medals for combat and distinguished service.
Pina holds a shadowbox of honors presented by Senator John Thune.

Pina has been in the care of VA Black Hills Health Care System for the last 48 years. It has been VA Black Hill’s pleasure to provide him care on 550 different occasions for medical appointments and another 696 opportunities in a variety of other services. ....

South Dakota Riders chapter has big plans for 100 Miles for Hope

The Black Hills Chapter of American Legion Post 164 in Spearfish, S.D., involved the community during the first 100 Miles for Hope in 2020. The highlight was a 100-mile American Legion Riders journey on Patriots Day from Spearfish to the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Along the way, Riders stopped at the VA Black Hills Health Care System in Fort Meade.
“We scheduled a visit to the Fort Meade VA so that we could honor the residents and medical teams,” said Micheline Nelson, a member of the post’s Riders chapter and the Auxiliary unit. “We were able to wave and say thank you to the nurses and doctors who came out.” ....

STURGIS, S.D. – The VA Black Hills Health Care System is hosting a Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic.
The event takes place on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Fort Meade Campus. All enrolled Veterans, regardless of age or priority group, may receive the vaccine at this clinic. Vaccines will be available on a first come, first serve basis and Veterans will be required to stay for a 15-minute observation period after the vaccination.
The vaccine being administered is the COVID-19 Moderna vaccine. Information about the Moderna vaccine can be found at www.cdc.gov. ....

FORT MEADE, S.D. – The VA Black Hills Health Care System is hosting a convenient Saturday Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic.
