VA Clinic In Rapid Is Getting A Major Upgrade

The new VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic will be 45 thousand square feet. That s almost three times the size of the current facility. 

Sandra Horsman is director of the VA Black Hills Health Care System. She says the upgrade is vital for veterans.

“So it s not just about health care. I tell my team if all we did was provide health care, we could do that anywhere in the community. What we do best is all of our staff recognize the challenges and the struggles that our veterans face. And they re different than the average citizen.”

“For the first time we re going to be able to incorporate a women s clinic, as opposed to trying to retrofit it. And our women veterans are our fastest and number one growing veteran population.”  ....

Ground finally broken for new VA Outpatient Clinic

RAPID CITY, S.D. A groundbreaking over a decade in the making is going to go a long way towards improving veteran health care in the area.
After about 17 years of hard work by Dream Design International, the VA Black Hills Health Care System, our congressional delegation, and many others, ground was finally broken Friday morning on the future site of the VA Community-based Outpatient Clinic in Rapid City.
The approximately 49,000 square foot facility will be located off Mount Rushmore Road and Catron Boulevard near many of the VA’s health care and community partners.
With that much space, the VA will be expanding its services to the area’s approximately 7,000 veterans. The new clinic will also include a women’s health center. ....

Army Veteran Eddie Pina worked hard with Senator John Thune’s office to fix his DD214 (Discharge from Active Duty). He arrived at Thune’s office to receive his Combat Infantry Badge with Star to show he served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was presented with the Combat Infantry Badge 2nd award and was also presented with ten medals for combat and distinguished service.
Pina holds a shadowbox of honors presented by Senator John Thune.

Pina has been in the care of VA Black Hills Health Care System for the last 48 years. It has been VA Black Hill’s pleasure to provide him care on 550 different occasions for medical appointments and another 696 opportunities in a variety of other services. ....
