There are two new COVID-19 related deaths in Oregon, raising the state’s death toll to 2,792.
Oregon Health Authority reported 265 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total to 210,229.
The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across Oregon is 99, which is one fewer than Thursday and the lowest number OHA has reported since Sept. 14, 2020. There are 26 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, which is two fewer than Thursday.

COVID-19 Cases Continue Decline In Oregon

The Oregon Health Authority’s COVID-19 Weekly Report, released today, shows a continued decrease in daily cases and hospitalizations.
OHA reported 1,189 new daily cases of COVID-19 during the week of Monday, June 28, through Sunday, July 4. That represents a 13% decrease over the previous week.
New COVID-19 related hospitalizations declined by 40%, to 66, from 110 the previous week.
There were 19 reported COVID-19 related deaths, up from seven reported the previous week.
There were 62,307 tests for COVID-19 for the week of June 27 through July 3. The percentage of positive tests was 2.9%.
People 70 years of age and older have accounted for 38% of COVID-19 related hospitalizations and 74% of COVID-19 related deaths. ....

Did Washington's Record Heat Death Toll Include Yakima Victims?

The numbers are in from around the Northwest and according to the Associated Press, Washington state’s death toll from last month’s record-breaking Pacific Northwest heat wave has risen to 78. Oregon s death toll from last weekend s record-smashing heat wave has risen to 116.
To give that some perspective, the state Department of Health said that in comparison, there were just seven heat-related deaths in Washington from mid-June to the end of August last year and from 2015 to 2020 there were a total of 39 deaths.
Yesterday the state medical examiner from Oregon released an updated list of fatalities from the heat wave that added nine deaths. Of the 116 deaths recorded, the youngest victim was 37 and the oldest was 97. ....
