Golden Hawk Girls Hit the Road Saturday


It’s matinee basketball for the Mid-Prairie girls on Saturday when they travel to Monticello to meet the Panthers. The Golden Hawks are .500 on the season at 3-3 after a loss to Cascade Friday night in Wellman 45-35. On the season, Mid-Prairie has three players averaging double figures led by Maddie Nonnenmann at 13 points per game, Myah Lugar with 11 and Phelan Hostetler at 10. Nonnenmann and Esther Hughes are tied for the team lead at five boards per contest with Amara Jones dishing out a team best four assists per game.
Monticello comes into the night with an overall record of 5-1. They were 42-31 winners over Tipton last night. On the season the Panthers are led by Gabrielle Guilford at 14 points per game. Rebekah Prull leads the team at seven rebounds per game while Tori McDonald averages four helpers per contest. Hawks Host Cougars


The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team returns to the floor tonight when they welcome Cascade to Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Hawks are 3-2 on the season and were dominant last time out, beating up on North Cedar 64-8. Mid-Prairie put four in double figures in that game with Phelan Hostetler scoring 13 points, Nora Pennington and Maddie Nonnenmann each had a dozen and Myah Lugar 10. Hawks Sweep Knights on Friday


The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams powered through North Cedar Friday night in River Valley Conference play. The Golden Hawk girls scored an impressive 64-8 win over the visiting Knights. The Hawks scored the first 20 in a row to start the game and led 26-1 after the first quarter. They would continue to grow the lead, enacting the continuous clock midway through the second quarter and holding a 42-8 lead at the half. The Mid-Prairie defense got even better in the second half, not allowing the Knights a single point, while posting 22 of their own. Head coach Danny Hershberger talked this weekend on the KCII Radio Coaches Corner about his team’s performance. “It was a great effort by our girls. The biggest thing was that we were communicating. The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams are back on the floor Friday when they welcome the North Cedar Knights to Wellman for a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls come into the game at 2-2 on the year, after a 49-43 loss to Iowa City Regina at home Tuesday. Maddie Nonnenmann led the way for Mid-Prairie with 20. For the season, the Hawks are paced by Nonnenmann at 13 points per game. She’s also tied with Esther Hughes for the team lead at seven boards per contest. Hughes and Myah Lugar each dish out three assists per game. North Cedar comes in at 0-3 on the year, they fell to Camanche on Tuesday 43-35 despite Aubrey Carstensen and Maddie Michels 12pts. On the season, Jenna Syring scores 12 points per game to lead the way. She has also grabbed a team high 14 boards per game. Sam Koth averages two assists per contest.
