New US Covid infections for the week ending January 16th were 8.5% below those of the week ending January 9th, so it appears that the incidence of new cases mat have peaked and is turning down, at least for the time being. One caveat to that, though, is that we don t know how many of the prior week s cases were from reports that had been delayed over the holidays. Madrid: Emergency crews in central Spain will form vaccine convoys through the snow, after clearing 500 roads and rescuing some 1500 stranded people, allowing a weekly shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine to be distributed to regional health authorities.
The Spanish government said it would on Monday send convoys carrying the COVID-19 vaccine and food supplies to areas cut off by Storm Filomena, the country s worst snowstorm in recent memory, which has killed four people. ....

Unusual snow kills 4, brings much of Spain to a standst...


MADRID (AP) A persistent blizzard blanketed large parts of Spain with an unusual amount of snow on Saturday, killing at least four people and leaving thousands trapped in cars or at train stations and airports that suspended all services.
The national weather agency reported that as of 7 a.m., the snowfall in Madrid reached a level unseen in half a century. More than 50 centimeters (20 inches) of snow fell in the Spanish capital, according to the weather agency AEMET.
The bodies of a man and woman were recovered by the Andalucía region emergency service after their car was washed away by a flooded river near the town of Fuengirola. The Interior Ministry said a 54-year-old man was also found dead in Madrid under a big pile of snow. A homeless man died of hypothermia in the northern city of Zaragoza, the local police department reported. ....
