VALLEY CITY, ND (newsdakota.com) – Valley City had quite the spring season in their athletics, and now their athletes are gearing up for their state tournaments. The girls’ tennis team went 2-1 in their matches in the EDC tournament and qualified for state. They defeated Fargo North 3-2 in an upset and also defeated Grand Forks Red River to qualify for the state tournament which will begin next Thursday in Grand Forks. They will square off the western conference’s #1 seed Mandan in the quarterfinal round at 10 a.m. 19 athletes on the Track & Field will compete in the state tournament in Bismarck. The competition starts today at 8:45 a.m and will continue through tomorrow until 6 p.m. ....

Alex Page scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 4 rebounds for the Roughriders inside the Scheels Center. Jadyn Fiest paced West Fargo Sheyenne with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Grand Forks Red River (20-4 overall) will enter the state tournament as the No. 3 seed from EDC and play in the 2:30 p.m. game on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals from the Bismarck Events Center. West Fargo Sheyenne finishes the season 13-12 overall. ....

(NewsDakota.com) – Grand Forks Red River jumped out to a 27-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game and never looked back on the way to 64-39 win over Valley City in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Dakota Conference girls basketball tournament Tuesday night in Grand Forks. The Hi-Liners did not score until Tesa Olson hit a short jumper to the right of the lane with 7:57 to go in the first half. From that point on, the Hi-Liners out scored the second ranked Roughriders 39-37. Alex Page had nine of her game high 22 points i the first half when Red River built a 36-12 lead. Page added seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks for the Roughriders. Jade Azure had 12 points for Red River and Kaylee Lancaster had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Litzinger had six rebounds and four assists which tied Ella Fosse for the team high. ....
