Luisa Ortega, 4th of July Fireworks Event Organizer, accepts a $2,000 donation from Jessica O’Neill, Lennox human resources manager, and Miguel Gutierrez, Lennox director for the 2021 annual Independence Day fireworks extravaganza. The pyrotechnics show will be all aerial held at dusk at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds, on July 4.
The annual 4th of July Fireworks fundraising effort has a goal this year to create an aerial fireworks show at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds that will be three to four times bigger and better than each of the past years’ shows.
With families dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for over a year, this year’s fundraising mission is to create an Independence Day show that honors America’s Independence and provides a welcome reprieve from the previous year’s stressors. For professional competitive eater Randy Santel, the Legends American Grill Monster Burger Challenge was 8 minutes, 58 seconds well spent.
Santel stopped at Legends on South Center Street as part of his tour of midwest eating challenges. He was in Altoona Tuesday to take on Brick and Ivy Rooftop’s Chicago Dog Challenge where he devoured eight fully loaded hot dogs. ....

Ellen L. Harbaugh passed away peacefully, as the sun was setting on May 9, 2021 at the age of 77.
Ellen was born in Belleville, IL on December 17, 1943 to Henry and Veranda Stork. She graduated with honors and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Southern Illinois University, and attended graduate school at Kansas State University. She worked at Little Grassy Lake, near Carbondale, IL in the early 60’s, and helped to establish a day camp held at Camp Wartburg sponsored by the Monroe County Council for the Handicapped.
She married Daniel Harbaugh on June 25th, 1966. She taught elementary school for a year in Waterloo, IL and 4 years in Manhattan, KS before making their home in Marshalltown, Iowa in 1971, where she taught kindergarten and reading for the Marshalltown Area Catholic Schools. After teaching there for 23 years, she retired for health reasons. However, she found other ways to impact students. She continued to tutor following her r ....
