Benny E. Woolley – Independence – Mix 94.7 KMCH


Independence – Benny E. Woolley, 83 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died peacefully on May 8, 2021, at Thousen Cottage of the Western Home in Cedar Falls from complications of Alzheimer’s.  He was born on the family farm near Leon on March 19, 1938, the son of Cecil and Geraldine (Walker) Woolley.  He graduated from the Leon High School with the Class of 1957.  Ben attended Central College in Pella, Iowa, for two years and finished his degree in Industrial Arts and a minor in music at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO.  He taught music in Missouri before coming to Independence to teach drafting.  After he retired from teaching, he worked for Dave’s Cabinet Shop for several years.  Ben married Marcia Stewart in 1969.  The met on a blind date arranged by Harold (a former student) and Marilyn Freeman.  They were married over 51 years. ....

Governor Reynolds removes leader of nursing home for veterans

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) Gov. Kim Reynolds has removed the chief executive of the state s nursing home for veterans and their spouses, months after praising his response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Reynolds spokesman, Pat Garrett, said Monday that Timon Oujiri was relieved of his duties as commandant of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown last week. He offered no additional information on the leadership change at the facility, which is Iowa s largest nursing home.
Reynolds appointed Oujiri as commandant in 2017. He oversaw one of the nation s largest state-owned nursing homes for veterans, with around 500 residents and 900 employees. In December, Reynolds said the commandant and his staff have done such an outstanding job battling COVID-19. ....

Iowa Veterans Home Commandant Timon Oujiri relieved of duties


The commandant of the Iowa Veterans Home was relieved of his duties last week, according to a spokesperson for Gov. Kim Reynolds, who provided no further details.
Commandant Timon Oujiri, who led the nursing facility for Iowa veterans, was relieved of his duties as commandant on Wednesday, Pat Garrett, Reynolds spokesperson, told reporters in an email Monday morning.
Our office is not able to provide additional details at this time, Garrett wrote.
Garrett said that Penny Cutler-Bermudez, an Iowa Veterans Home division administrator, is serving as the acting commandant.
The Iowa Veterans Home, in Marshalltown, was founded in 1887 and is one of the nation s largest state-owned nursing homes for veterans, with around 500 residents and 900 employees, according to its website. ....
