Darden Announces Scholarship for Diverse Leadership in Asset Management

A new scholarship program from University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business aims to promote diverse leadership in management. 
The school’s newly announced Breakthrough Scholars Program will award merit-based scholarships to students pursuing careers in asset management, including venture capital, private equity and other areas.
Besides the scholarship award, recipients will have access to a range of opportunities for networking, mentoring, education and professional development. 
Together, the benefits that come with the Breakthrough Scholars Program are intended to provide “an advantage for elite women and outstanding under-represented racial minorities launching careers in private equity, venture capital and related fields,” according to Darden professor and Breakthrough Scholars adviser Greg Fairchild. ....

Point of view: This is the first administration to place climate change leaders in strong appointments across agencies and domains, up and down the roster. From Health and Human Services to highway safety to the budget office, there are now climate champions in place to help tackle this problem from many directions. That’s hugely promising. 
Next up: The United States owes the world its next climate action pledge under the Paris Agreement, and that pledge will be announced later this year. If President Biden is serious about retaking international leadership on this issue, our U.S pledge better be a good one, because global leadership starts at home. The U.S. is going to have to show that it can make meaningful, enduring domestic progress on climate change before trying to exercise any moral authority at the U.N.  ....
