MUSKEGON, Mich. — Be it dining in or picking up, Raj Grewal says it’s nice to finally see customers in his business.
“Since we opened today at noon, we had people started [sic] coming here quarter to 12 ready to order, dine in,” said Grewal.
Grewal’s family owns Curry Kitchen and Naan Pizza in Muskegon.
Like other businesses, the Indian restaurants continue to be impacted by COVID19 and restrictions set forth by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, like a 25 percent capacity limit. ....

Michigan lawmakers hold hearing, seek answers about nursing home deaths amid pandemic
Witnesses at hearing called for change to visitation policies

LANSING, Mich. – In a hearing on Thursday about Michigan’s COVID policies and nursing homes, lawmakers said they’ve been given the runaround from the state Department of Health and Human Services on critical data, before witnesses testified in hopes of relaxing visitation policies.
The hearing was initially meant to probe whether the state’s nursing home policy designated them as “hubs” for COVID patients. Similar policies were used in four other states including in New York, where Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration was found to have been undercounting certain types of COVID deaths among nursing home patients, effectively lowering the number of deaths attributed to virus spread in nursing homes. ....

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Michigan PFAS Action Response Team and the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport will update residents next week on its investigation of PFAS contamination on and near the airport.
Representatives from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, along with the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department and the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport will host a virtual community meeting Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. ....

MICH. — Due to winter storms in Kentucky and Tennessee vaccine shipments this week have been delayed according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
MDHHS was notified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the delays.
“We ask that Michiganders confirm their appointments prior to traveling and to have patience as providers seek to reschedule any appointments,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical executive and chief deputy for health.
“Unfortunately, distribution of the vaccine in this circumstance is simply out of our control. Vaccine providers across the state are working hard to get 70% of Michiganders age 16 and older vaccinated with the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine as quickly as possible,” Khaldun explained. ....

90 cases of COVID-19 variant discovered in prison

IONA, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has identified 90 cases of the B.1.1.7 COVID variant at the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia.
90 out of the 95 samples taken were found to have the variant, 88 being prisoners and two being employees. Testing was prompted after an employee was found to have the variant.
B.1.1.7 is believed to be more contagious compared to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and as soon as it was detected in the prison daily testing was enacted.
