Michigan stepping up speed enforcement during regional traffic safety campaign June 19 – 27

LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Since the COVID-19 pandemic began more than a year ago, law enforcement agencies across the nation have reported a spike in speeding and fatal crashes.
To combat this trend, the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Region 5 Office are partnering with five other states on a regional traffic safety campaign.
As part of the “Great Lakes, High Stakes” campaign, more than 30 municipal, county and Michigan State Police (MSP) law enforcement agencies will focus on speeding drivers between June 19 and 27. ....

April 28, 2021 Using naturalistic driving data and machine learning techniques, researchers at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and Columbia s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science have developed highly accurate algorithms for detecting mild cognitive impairment and dementia in older drivers. Naturalistic driving data refer to data captured through in-vehicle recording devices or other technologies in the real-world setting. These data could be processed to measure driving exposure, space and performance in great detail. The findings are published in the journal

The researchers developed random forests models, a statistical technique widely used in AI for classifying disease status, that performed exceptionally well.
